This is a replica from an 1800's style Italian Ex-Voto. It has been recast in gold tin to give the appearance of antique, tarnished brass. It it a flaming heart framed in lace, and then wrapped in scrolls and cherubs. The front of the ex-voto has a monogram attached to it. It is a halo over the initials GR.
GR stands for Grazia Ricevuta, which is an Italian phrase that means thanks for prayers received. For hundreds of years, ex-votos have been used as a 'thank you note' to God for receipt of a miracle or an answered prayer. In years past, it was common to fill the church with ex-votos during a wedding, Christening, Communion, other other event. It's a beautiful display piece for your Santos collection.
Measures approx. 7.5" tall.
Antiquing/tarnishing process is done by hand, and can vary from piece to piece. We've shown you two examples here. Yours will look very similar to these styles.
