This wonderful whitewashed Santos cage doll is a natural beauty! Photos really do not do her justice. She's the body of our 31" gray cage doll, but without the normal paint. She's faintly whitewashed, leaving a powdery coat that accentuates her natural wood grains and delicate carvings. She may have a few spots here and there of 'plaster', and some rough finish - I love that, because it makes me feel like she stepped right out of her artists hands in The Old World!
This Santos can be dressed in a skirt (see the first photo to view one from our personal collection, wearing a handmade peacock feather skirt), used to hold trinkets inside the cage, or even used as a doll dress form.
Her head and hands are from a hand finished resin mold, and they look remarkably identical to her wood body. She is 31" tall, and has a 7.5 inch wide base.
The lady's shoulders, elbows & hands are jointed, providing her with limited (and/or perhaps asymmetrical) motion/postures. This is not a defect, but a distinction of unique craftsmanship.
Fashioned after the antique European Santos, they are carefully hand crafted. To make the hand painted doll unique, the craftsmen distress it; picking & choosing from a range of faux aging techniques. Variations occur with each handcrafted piece, particularly when being 'antiqued'. This is character, and not a flaw.
All photos are from our studio collection. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, milagros / ex-votos / crowns / wings / halos / etc shown in any of these photos are not included.
